Coup Core

ContractCoup recognizes that new product is constantly flooding our resource libraries. But, we feel that although manufacturers are always trying to wow us with their latest and greatest that we always seem to gravitate towards our old favorites. Of course we want to use the newest products on our projects. But remember to look back too. Most of these companies have product that have stood the test of time.

We illustrate that this week with both a Now Coup and a Wow Coup.

Yoma Textiles

"Now Coup"

Elan: The discovery of an intricate ivory carving on an Indian powder horn served as inspiration for our beautiful jacquard. The construction was selected specifically for the texture partnered with a rich palette complementing our existing unique collection.

"Wow Coup"

Ribbon Stripe: The original inspiration was a raffia striped ribbon. We recreated the subtle raffia texture with a crepe construction and retained the tailored stripe, bordered with a twill weave that really enhances the overall appearance.

Coup Canvas

Anyone who knows a designer, works with a designer, or in ContractCoup’s case is a designer, knows that we, as a sub-culture, have the need to express ourselves in more ways then CAD could ever provide. We’re both tactile and visual. As designers we need to be inspired and lifted to new heights in order to create beautiful, enduring spaces to live and work in.

The Coup Canvas incorporates professional within our industry, which are pursuing passions other than the common passion we all share for good, if not great design. They are painting, writing, weaving. Some are even writing arias. Art in all its forms is exploding throughout our community and we invite to support and view your contemporaries in this community.

Andrea Lugo-Hurtado – Ted Moudis Associates

Andrea is a very talented jewelry designer. Her influences and inspirations come from many places: fashion, art, architecture and her travels. All the pieces are unique in style, textures, and color combinations. She also likes to play with different scales yet combining simple shapes. As you see her collections you will see she really focuses on quality, using nothing but the best of materials. Check out her website to see designs and dates for her upcoming shows.

Heather Kane – Perkins Eastman Architects

Unity in Diversity

What amazing photos Heather took while traveling through India! She captured images of places and things we can only imagine. It is as if we are traveling along with Heather and discovering India through her eyes. If you haven’t seen her photography exhibit at the
Blueridge Commercial Carpet and David Edward showroom
200 Lexington Avenue, 14th floor
Monday – Friday 9-5

Please let us know of other designers to add to our “Coup Canvas”.

Green, Green, my world is Green .....or is it ?

Lately everyone in the design community has been force fed the word “GREEN”.
And we don’t mean the color. Greenwash has taken over and we, like most are overwhelmed and confused. Of course as human beings, we care about the environment.
We want a healthy world to work, live and play in now and in the future. But we refuse to be insulted by the college students who walk the streets asking if we have time for the environment, when they should really be asking do we have time for them. And frankly, we don’t. It is difficult to decipher what is fact and what is not. There are thousands of articles being published. Seminar after seminar. And rep after rep “educating” us on their companies stance on sustainability.

But here’s the question at hand.
How many professionals out there are being asked by their clients for a “Green” design?

Are they looking for LEED certification or are they looking for the best solution for their projects? Is cost a factor?

ContractCoup wants to know. If we know the questions you’re being asked, then we know what content to include in our blog.

We hope to hear from you all soon.

BIRTH Of A "COUP"

One day, some time ago, we were sitting around with other Contract Design Professionals, when the "coup" hit us.

Why wasn't there a forum for us to share our ideas, voice our frustrations, answer obvious questions, see new product before it hits our library shelves and general industry meanderings?

We invite you all to join our blog.
We'll keep you informed.
We'll share our thoughts, and yours as well.
